Airspan Networks has announced today that wi-tribe has contracted for additional WiMAX equipment to expand their network across Jordan. wi-tribe Jordan has deployed Airspan's 3.6-GHz HiperMAX solution which allows a carrier the choice of fixed or mobile WiMAX on a single hardware platform. Airspan's HiperMAX base station with advanced radio technologies has enabled wi-tribe to minimize the number of base stations required for indoor coverage.
wi-tribe recently launched commercial service on their network and are now in the expansion phase of their deployment.
"Emerging broadband markets are certainly one of the rapidly growing WiMAX segments and a key target for Airspan," added Declan Byrne, Airspan's Chief Marketing Officer. "Our WiMAX customer base includes those companies who are pioneering broadband access in these countries. We are looking forward to a long relationship with wi-tribe."
wi-tribe Jordan is a subsidiary of wi-tribe, a joint venture between The Qtel Group (Qatar Telecom) and the A.A. Turki Group of Companies (ATCO) together with a proactive partnership with Clearwire, originally selected Airspan as their preferred supplier in January of 2008.
