Alcatel Shanghai Bell recently received a service router contract worth RMB 11 million ($1.6 million) from Hebei Netcom as well as a transport network contract worth RMB 13 million ($1.9 million) from Shanghai Mobile, a source from ASB said today.
"ASB trumped Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and received approximately 70 percent of an IP-based metropolitan area network project from Hebei Netcom, China Netcom's subsidiary in Hebei Province. ASB will provide the 7750 service router to Hebei Netcom," the source, who wished to remain anonymous, told Interfax.
The 7750 service router is a multi-service edge router designed for the delivery of data, voice and video services on a single IP/MPLS (Internet Protocol/Multi Protocol Label Switching) network.
ASB was also recently selected by Shanghai Mobile, China Mobile's subsidiary in Shanghai Municipality, to supply its IP over DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) solution, the source said.
ASB outdid Huawei in the bidding, the source said. Huawei used to be Shanghai Mobile's dominant transport network equipment supplier.
An IP over DWDM solution enables the convergence of operators' IP and DWDM core networks, increasing service flexibility and reliability while lowering costs. DWDM is an optical technology used to increase bandwidthover existing fiber optic backbones.
