Nokia Siemens Wins Iraqi GSM Contract

Nokia Siemens Networks and Iraqi operator, Asiacell Communication will extend their cooperation with a multi million dollar frame contract for the Iraqi operator’s 2G network expansion. Nokia Siemens Networks will also continue to provide the local support needed to run Asiacell’s operations in Iraq.

Nokia Siemens Networks offers state-of-the-art technology and understands our business objectives. With their solution, driving cost-efficiency and environmental values, and with their committed local team, we are able to offer best in-class services to our customers,” said Dr, Diar Ahmed, CEO of Asiacell.

In addition Asiacell staff will receive competence development services to meet rapid network expansion and the advent of new technologies.

“We look forward to extending our cooperation with Asiacell in Iraq and we are committed to ensuring that Asiacell is well-positioned to strengthen its business in this market. As we introduce our latest technologies to the network, building on the existing network infrastructure supplied by Nokia Siemens Networks, Asiacell will be able to serve its customers with the latest services as cost efficiently as possible,” said Luay Arabi, Head of Customer Team, Nokia Siemens Networks.

No financial details were provided.

In May, Nokia Siemens signed a US$150 million contract with rival operator, Zain.
