Nokia Oyj is set to raise its stake in Symbian, the mobile phone software maker, to more than 50 percent after agreeing to buy Siemens AG's holding, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing unnamed sources.
The move could trigger unease among major handset vendors as several of Nokia's rivals including Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson rely on Symbian software for their smartphone models, the newspaper said on its website.
According to the report, Nokia plans to pay Siemens about 70 million euros for its 8.4 percent stake to increase its holding to 56.3 percent.
Neither Nokia nor Symbian were immediately available for comment.
