Cisco Systems has agreed to acquire mobile
WiMAX equipment developer Navini Networks for USD 330 million cash. Navini is a specialist in the integration of smart beamforming technologies with
MIMO antennas, a combination that improves the performance and range for WiMAX services and lowers the overall deployment and operational costs for service providers. Navini''s products, which include base stations, antenna arrays, modems and management systems, will be added to Cisco''s existing
Wi-Fi and wireless mesh portfolios, marking the company''s first major move into the WiMAX segment. Navini already counts over 75 customers. The deal is expected to close in Cisco''s fiscal Q2.
