Ultra-High Voltage Project Completed HengTong Endeavored to Create the ¡°Backbones¡± of Great Power

Updated:2018/4/20 09:34

With the last phase of wire of “Xinjiang Zhundong---Anhui Wannan” ultra-high voltage of direct current project crossing the natural moat of the Yangtze River on April 15th, transmitting electricity of around 1100 kilovolts from the west to east, OPGW optical cables supplied by Fujikura Hengtong Aerial Cable System Ltd., have also spanned over the Yangtze River, completing successfully the world’s highest level of ultra-high voltage project.

Changji-Guquan High Voltage Direct Current Transmission Project (around 1100 KV) is the most technology-advanced ultra-high voltage electricity transmission project in the world at present, with the highest level of voltage, the largest capacity and the longest distance. This project marks an important milestone for State Grid in making continuous innovations in ultra-high voltage electricity transmission. It also renovates the technologies of global grids and ushers in a new era of technical development, which is of great significance for guiding the progress of global energy Internet.

Spanning across the Yangtze River is the key to the whole project, which has to break the time limitation of channel blockade of major waterways and overcome changeable air flows above the river. In addition, the major crossing tower has a height of 225.2 meters and a length of 2900 meters, on which the ultra-low loss of OPGW optical cables were put into use for the first time at such a great distance. The cross section of OPGW optical cables can reach up to 300 square millimeters, three times of that of the ordinary one, which requests highly advanced technologies of ultra-low loss of such cables.

Upon that, Fujikura Hengtong Aerial Cable System has given top priority to this project. It has set up specialized groups to surmount all odds, including the production of ultra-low loss of optical units, margin design of long distance and large spanning system, guarantee of the stability of line side environmental products and the structure matching of neighboring baselines. Besides, these groups have to closely monitor the purchase of raw materials, production arrangements, quality control and the whole process of production, fulfilling the production task with both quality and quantity.

Meanwhile, the company has appointed market engineering service personnel to check and accept the whole cables, promising a normal construction of each section. During the construction of Yangtze River great crossing, those staff all lived there, offering on-site guidance and testing optical cables as quickly as possible, which guaranteed the normal progress of the project and won universal recognition of construction corps.

In fact, HengTong’s technologies, products and systematic resolutions have been applied to many of the world’s major power projects, setting a record of OPPC domestic highest voltage lines in this field and achieving many of the world’s most, such as the biggest cross section of OPGW, the largest capacity, the greatest spanning, the strongest thunder-proof and the thickest ice coating.
