Huawei Smartphone Q1 Global Shipments up 21.6% YoY

Huawei Consumer Business Group issued the 1Q17 operating report on May 2. It posted global smartphone shipments of 34.55 million with a 21.6 YoY percent increase, which caught 9.8 percent of the market share, occupying a comfortable third-place spot globally according to IDC.

In Q1, its smartphone shipments in 52 countries grew over 50 percent year over year, and those in 32 countries increased over 100 percent. When broken down by geography, the number kept growing over 20 percent and 15 percent stably respectively in China and Europe, and increased more than 70 percent in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.

Huawei P9 and Mate 9 mobile phones have become global blockbusters, bringing the Chinese cellphone giant rising influence in the high-end smartphone market. In the first quarter of 2017, Huaiwei's shipped high-end smartphones priced at above 2000rmb climbed 11 percent compared with the same period of last year.

Huawei Consumer BG noted that the flagship Huawei P10/P10 Plus models have been released in over 30 countries. In addition, significant growth happened to Huawei's tablet sales in Q1, of which the shipments were up over 70 percent YoY.
