Updated:2016/9/2 14:34

China Unicom will conduct commercial trials on NB-IoT in 2016 and launch NB-IoT services in 2017, Hu Yun, director of IoT R&D Center, China Unicom Network Technology Research Institute, said at China Smart Device Tech-innovation Summit 2016 on August 30.

According to Hu Yun, China Unicom exhibited its first smart water meter with Huawei in Barcelona in February 2015 and constructed world's first NB-IoT sample point and world's largest NB-IoT commercial office in Shanghai. The operator has started large-scale field trials, aiming to deploy NB-IoT in 8-9 cities in China as a preparation for large-scale rollouts next year. In 2016, China Unicom will build about one thousand base stations for NB-IoT in Shanghai, covering the main city.

China Unicom has set up the IoT open laboratory and has been cooperating with several mainstream vendors. It has already met the demands of end-to-end tests for IoT.
