IoT and Home Market Become Major Concern in Chinese Operators' Transformation

Further convergence of Internet & traditional operators and rapid development of Internet in various fields provide Chinese operators with more opportunities. Chinese operators believe that IoT and home market will be the priority in their transformation.

To be adaptable to the development of Internet, Chen Li, deputy general manager of China Telecom Group Innovation Business Unit, said that China Telecom will put more efforts into improving the speed and cutting down the tariff in 2016. To achieve this, China Telecom will strengthen optical network upgrade. For instance, it aims to raise the percentage of 100 M / 50 M optical broadband subscribers to over 50% and lift the average broadband speed to 35 M before the end of this year. It will also push 4G+ in over 300 cities in China, making the wireless peak rate rise from 150 M to 300 M.

The speakers of three giants all thought that IoT and IPTV for home market will become the major concern in the transformation of the operators. IoT has a huge market which is ten-thousand times larger than the market for Internet.

Wang Hongyu, deputy general manager of Department of Market Operation, China Mobile, said, "Operators are positive about home market and China Mobile has been aggressively promoting IPTV. We founded Migu which passes contents to users through OTT or IPTV."

Fang Gang, deputy general manager of Customer Group of China Unicom, said operators pay more attention to B2B businesses in terms of future IoT. Chen Li pointed out China Telecom will focus services on IoT, cloud, big data and industrial Internet for corporate clients and industry customers, promote optical broadband strategy based on smart home in home market and provide entertainment & financial Applications for individual users.
