China Unicom cuts international roaming data cost by 72%

Updated:2016/6/2 11:22

China Unicom announces on Monday that effective from June 1, its international roaming tariffs will be reduced significantly, including voice and data services. A 72% average drop will happen to China Unicom's international data roaming tariffs with 116 countries and regions involved. The unlimited daily data packages will decrease to CNY 56 from CNY 86 while there will be 112 areas covered with the 5 yuan/5Mb or 5 yuan/3Mb data tariff from 87 previously. The international voice roaming tariff will be down 48% on average in 130 countries and areas. The CNY 26 unlimited daily data packages will cover 56 countries and regions which only covered Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan previously.

This follows two drops of international roaming tariffs of China Unicom in May and October last year since it implemented "improve the speed and cut down the tariff" a year ago, which is the biggest decline of the three.

As we know, international roaming tariff is primarily determined by local operators, which largely causes the high cost. China Unicom attaches great importance to cutting down international roaming charges and reduces charges for international roaming services by strengthening the efforts in negotiations with overseas operators and cooperates with China Telecom.
