China Telecom announced the unreviewed financial results in Q1 on April 28th.
Revenue
China Telecom achieved CNY 86.426 billion operating revenue with a YoY growth of 6.1%; its service revenue reached CNY 76.359 billion, a YoY increase of 5.0%.
Net profit
China Telecom pointed out in the earnings that though influenced by the policies such as "improving the speed and cutting down the tariff" and "data traffic not cleared", it kept a steady growth in net profit which reaches CNY 5.119 billion, posting a 1.4% YoY increase.
EBITDA
China Telecom generated CNY 23.811 billion in EBITDA, marking a 2.9% decrease over the prior year.
4G and mobile service
China Telecom has achieved rapid growth in 4G subscribers and mobile service revenue. It reported 4.74 million mobile subscriber additions, taking the mobile base to 203 million. A 16.45 million net addition happened to 4G subscribers while the total reached 74.91 million. The average 4G data traffic consumed per month kept growing fast, hitting 875 Mb and the ARPU in Q1 increased slightly compared with a year ago.
Fixed network service
The revenue of fixed network services rose steadily in Q1. China Telecom added 3.11 million subscribers, taking the fixed network base to 116 million. The overall data services of the fixed network maintained a good growth, offsetting the impact of the fixed-line voice service loss. The local fixed telephone subscribers reduced by 1.46 million.
Operating and support cost for network
As China Telecom sold a number of telecom towers and assets to China Tower ("Tower Company") in 2015, China Telecom has to pay the fees for using the towers. Therefore, China Telecom's operating and support cost for network in Q1 increased by 16.4% YoY.
