China Telecom reduces CNY 2 billion revenue due to "traffic data not cleared" policy

Updated:2016/3/29 14:03

China Telecom released its financial results on March 23rd. On the press conference of the financial results, Yang Jie, president and COO of China Telecom said the "traffic data not cleared" policy implemented in China last year makes the company's revenue reduce by CNY 2 billion in two months. The policy was only implemented in just two months, and it will be implemented throughout this year and is estimated to have greater influence on the revenue of China Telecom than last year.

In September 2015, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom announced they would launch the "traffic data not cleared" service on October 1st, 2015 - remaining traffic data included in the monthly package won't be cleared in the next single month. The subscribers don't need to apply for this service which is added by default.

"Traffic data not cleared" service is part of the "improving the speed and cutting down the tariff" plan of China Telecom. Yang Jie pointed out that the mobile service unit price has reduced by 37% and unit price of fixed network services has reduced 55% since the Chinese government implemented "improving the speed and cutting down the tariff" plan last year. Yang said China Telecom hasn't received any new requirement of improving the speed and cutting down the tariff from the government.
