Updated:2016/3/25 14:53

On March 23th, China Telecom released the annual performance report of 2015. During the press conference, the President and COO of China Telecom Yang Jie said that he would still act as the temporary chairman of China Telecom and would tell the press if he receives any personnel change notice.

Although rumor goes that China Telecom and China Unicom will merge in the future, however, Yang Jie said that the rumors have appeared long time ago, but he hasn't received any merge requirements yet and the two companies still operate independently. He also said that the rumors will continue to spread.

Yang pointed out that China Telecom and China Unicom have achieved resources sharing in network construction. He expects that cooperation of the two sides could expand from cities to rural regions, so they can co-build 4G base stations in rural areas and save cost and daily operating expenses. The two sides have co-built 5,000 km optical networks till now.

Yang Jie also said that China Telecom's target in 2016 is a net increase of 60 million 4G subscribers. The 4G ARPU will decline as the user scale increases, but the overall ARPU will remain stable.
