On March 23rd, China Unicom held the "'improving the speed and cutting down the tariff' promotion meeting and inaugural ceremony of 4K ultra HD industry alliance" in Jinan, Shandong. China Unicom and major domestic manufacturers, service providers and content providers of 4K equipments attended the inaugural ceremony.
With the upgrading of all-optical networks, high-speed video services are gradually becoming a hot spot in information consumption. On March 18th 2015, China Unicom officially released the "Smart WO Home" home Internet business development strategies, and has developed 12 million home users, over 21 million mobile phone users, 12 million TV users and 31 million cloud disk users in 10 months.
With constantly evolving of broadband access technologies, video services are transferring from the original 480P SD and 1080P HD videos to 2160P 4K ultra HD videos. The general manager of China Unicom marketing department Wei Xiuchang pointed out that to embrace the coming era of 4K ultra HD videos, China Unicom has taken steps in six aspects including network, business, content, platform, standard and industry to provide excellent service experiences for the customers.
In the aspect of network, China Unicom will comprehensively complete the optical network upgrading work this year, providing end-to-end high-speed all-optical network access services. In the business level, China Unicom will be first to launch the "Smart WO Home - 4K package" which takes 4K Ultra HD video as the core business. The broadband speed will be improved from 10Mbps and 20Mbps to 50Mbps and 100Mbps respectively. In addition, China Unicom will also cooperate with other enterprises to launch the "Smart WO Home cooperation named version". In the content level, China Unicom has integrated over 100,000 hours of videos, more than 1,400 games and over 50,000 songs for the users.
In the aspect of platform, China Unicom and Huawei have initiatively set up a joint operation mode in the industry and established the "China Unicom TV value-added business operation center". In the standard level, China Unicom has set up a "China Unicom 4K laboratory", which has completed and officially released the whole system standard and specifications of TV video business including business, product, network, platform, device, test and service. In the industry level, China Unicom has sincerely invited old and new friends in the industry to jointly set up the "4k Ultra HD industry alliance". Under the "open, innovation, cooperation and win-win" principle, China Unicom will cooperate with the industry partners, jointly achieve resource sharing within the industry alliance and build the 4K industrial development ecosystem.
