In the recently held China International Optoelectronic Expo in Shenzhen, China Unicom officially announced that it has built a Gigabit broadband access model network in Mianyang Science and Technology Business Park and promotes the commercialization of Gigabit ultra-broadband network in domestic markets.
Statistics shows that 50 operators have launched 1Gbps networks in the world by the end of 2014, with the emerging of 4K TV, smart home, integrated accessing, even virtual reality and other needs, it also brings the demands for high-speed broadband network, the Gigabit network is no longer an expectation in the distant future, but a field that attracts the attention of telecom operators presently.
Under the call of "improve the speed and cut down the tariff" programs, China Unicom vigorously promotes transformation and upgrading of optical fiber network in this year, it plans to complete the construction of 2 full-optical network provinces and basically achieve the network coverage with speed of 20Mb in the urban regions and 8Mb in the rural areas. For the ultra-broadband network, China Unicom also shows great enthusiasms, it has built the first Gigabit broadband access network in Mianyang Science and Technology Business Park back in October 2013, on this basis, it first realized Gigabit accessing with the WDM-PON technology in 2015, which promotes the commercialization process.
The chief expert of China Unicom Network Technology Research Institute Tang Xiongyan pointed out, with the continuous development of optical access technologies, combined with the development situation of China Unicom broadband network, 10G PON is the technological base to promote the construction of Gigabit broadband networks. According to C114, at present, the domestic operators have begun to scale purchase 10G PON related products.
At the same time, China Unicom also coordinated with the broadband industry chain and launched the “Ultra-broadband Access Industry Alliance”, jointly promoting the industrialization of ultra-broadband technologies. The founders include YOFC, FiberHome, Hengtong Optic-electric, ZTE, Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Jiuzhou Group and other enterprises, more enterprises are welcomed to join in and integrate the industrial chain resources and realize collaborative development.
