According to the industry insiders, China Mobile Qinghai branch (hereafter referred to as Qinghai Mobile) opened 43 TD-LTE base stations using 700MHz frequency band in May of this year. According to the introduction of the deputy general manager of Qinghai Mobile Liu Hongzhi, this trial network showed excellent performances in serving the electric car race around the Qinghai Lake and got good reputation from the tournament organizing committee and news media.
In addition, on August 5th, Qinghai Radio Management Office and Qinghai Communications Administration organized Qinghai branches of China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom to hold the 700MHz frequency band trial commercialization forum. The director of Qinghai Radio Management Office Lei Bingquan pointed out that the radio spectrum are limited resources, in order to use the 700MHz frequency band in public communication network construction, we should strengthen the research and actively promote the commercialization of 700MHz frequency band, and create brand new economic value for the society.
Last year, Qinghai Radio Management Office conducted monitoring and comparison of the 700MHz frequency bands, and found out that the current occupancy rate was less than 10%, the utilization rate was low and resulted in a waste of the spectrum resources. After coordination, Qinghai Mobile was allowed to use part of the 700MHz frequency band to build TD-LTE trial network.
In the surveys that Qinghai regulatory authorities conducted in January for the frequency bands demands of the three major operators, China Unicom and China Telecom also hope to get part of the 700MHz spectrum resources to achieve better network coverage with lower cost.
