Updated:2014/10/9 09:51

China Unicom announced recently that it will carry out procurement of equipment for "UMTS 900MHz expansion pilot project" in the near future, which plans to build 18,834 new U900 base stations, as well as 2G optimization services etc..

According to C114, China Unicom was approved for operation of 3G network in 900MHz band in 21 provinces in March, 2013. In the end of 2013, China Unicom started the first bid of equipment for WCDMA 900MHz expansion pilot project, and built 4,089 new U900 base stations and 96 G1800 base stations.

Unlike China Mobile who gradually stopped construction of TD-SCDMA 3G network, China Unicom launched "3G/4G integration" strategy in this year, with development of 4G network construction, it doesn’t give up 3G network, including the continuously strengthened investment in U900 network coverage.
