China Telecom will actively strive for the deployment of VoLTE in low frequency bands

Updated:2014/8/25 15:17

Recently in a public occasion, the technology expert of China Telecom Dai Guohua said, China Telecom will strive for the deployment of VoLTE in the low frequency bands.

Dai Guohua pointed out, the deployment of low frequency bands will greatly reduce the cost and difficulty in VoLTE deployment.

At present, the frequency bands in plan or deployment of China Telecom are B26, B3, B1, B40 and B41, in which the B40 and B41 are TDD bands, the B26, B3 and B1 are FDD. In the five frequency bands, the lowest frequency band is Band 26 (821-835MHz/866-880MHz), and also is the main frequency band of CDMA network deployment. Obviously, China Telecom hopes to deploy VoLTE in this band.

Insiders point out, the idea of China Telecom is good, but there are still two thresholds to overcome. The first is the technical threshold, China Telecom needs to clear out some frequency bands, which may cause adverse effects on the customer perception of current network subscribers; the second is the regulatory threshold, although the government departments allow the flexibly use of 3G/4G spectrums, but it is not clear whether Band 26 belongs to 2G or 3G.
