The director of Development department of MIIT Wen Ku said in the China LTE Development Summit 2014, LTE subscribers in China have exceeded ten million, by the end of May, the number of available TD-LTE device reached 290, including 220 mobile phones. Meanwhile, there emerged 8 smartphones that support both TD-LTE and CDMA for the first time.
Vice president of China Mobile Li Zhengmao said in the summit, by the end of June in 2014, TD-LTE base stations of China Mobile have exceeded 400,000, with the network coverage of more than 300 cities, and the number is still increasing.
Devices have always been the bottleneck of the TDD industry, but now the problem is lightening. Until now, shipments of TD-LTE devices have reached 18.9 billion, with more than 300 models. "we were meant to reach that number at the end of this year, but now, we have basically achieved that goal", said Li Zhengmao.
He also mentioned that the first 4G independent own-brand smartphone M811 of China Mobile, which is in short supply for customer’s demand. In the term of international roaming, China Mobile has achieved 4G roaming cooperation with 9 operators, with another 16 still in test.
With the construction of LTE FDD trial networks, the integration networking of TD-LTE and LTE FDD also become the greatest challenges that need to be solved.
