According to some sources, in order to achieve the annual goal of 50 million new 4G subscribers, in the second half of 2014, China Mobile will spare no efforts to guide mobile phone vendors to launch new 4G devices, and there will be a blowout of new smartphones and affordable ones in mobile phone enterprises, but even so, at least 3.5 million new 4G subscribers are needed in each of the next months in 2014 to achieve the goal of 50 million new 4G subscribers, which is definitely a tough task.
At an industry conference held earlier, the Chairman Xi Guohua and CEO Li Yue of China Mobile both said, the goal of new 4G subscribers was 50 million in 2014.
But according to its released data of the first 5 months, the growth rate of new 4G subscribers was not ideal. As the data revealed, new 4G subscribers increased 8.109 million in the first 5 months, with an average of only 1.9 million in each month, but the growth in May was relatively fast with 3 million new subscribers.
In this situation, China Mobile needs 42 million new 4G subscribers in the following 7 months to achieve its goal, in another word, 6 million new subscribers in each month in average, while that was only 3.311 million in May.
However, the insiders believe that, not only China Mobile is struggling for this situation, but also the mobile phone vendors are focused on 4G in the second half of year.
Most of the domestic mobile phone vendors in close relationship with telecom operators countered weak shipments in domestic market in 1H2014, shipments of Coolpad slowed down in late May, while inventory of Lenovo low-end 3G smartphones increased rapidly, and the other vendors didn’t launch new 4G smartphones on a large scale to sprint sales, in the second quarter of year, shipments in domestic market decreased nearly 30% compared with the first quarter, that makes 2H2014 of their hope to achieve their goal.
