Updated:2014/6/24 09:30

On June 20th, three main telecom operators announced their subscriber development situation in May respectively. The amounts of subscribers of China Mobile and China Unicom keep increasing, while that of China Telecom shows a descending trend.

As statistics show, in May, China Telecom has lost 950,000 mobile subscribers; net lost 4.36 million from January to May and the total number amounts to 181.22 million. China Telecom says the reason for the descending is because its competitors have launched LTE service and strengthen market promotion, intensifying the competition.

However, the increasing amounts of China Mobile and China Unicom mobile subscribers are quite favorable: in May, China Mobile subscribers amount to 787.295 million with net increase of 2.682 million, its 4G customers amount to 8.109 million, 3.311 million people more than past. China Unicom net increase 2.703 million mobile subscribers, amount to 293.291 million.

The analyst says, China Telecom has made strategic adjustment to accept challenge of China Mobile 4G wave, decreased promotion cost on 3G service, to prepare for future 4G development. However, the most desired FDD LTE license by China Telecom has not been   issued yet.
