Telefonica, Turk Telekom to cooperate in Germany

Updated:2011/4/15 11:26

Telefonica SA and Turk Telekom are set to work together to offer mobile and fixed-line plans targeted specifically at Germany's ethnic Turks, the German unit of Telefonica said in a statement Thursday.

The first offers under the cooperation will be available from summer this year, it said."We are able to offer the millions of Turks in Germany and in their home country propositions exactly tailored to their needs," said Rene Schuster, chief executive of Telefonica Germany.

The move comes after Turkcell, Turkey's largest mobile operator, earlier this year started offering services in Germany, using Deutsche Telekom AG's network infrastructure.

E-Plus, the German mobile unit of Dutch Royal KPN NV, has a brand called "Ay Yildiz" that also focuses on Germans who have Turkish roots.
