Updated:2011/3/3 11:03

China Telecom, the only CDMA 2000 mobile telecom carrier in China, will expand its Wi-Fi network around China by adding at least one million hotspots and plans to invest CNY100 billion (US$15.2 billion) in three years to establish its FTTx network, according to company chairman Wang Xiaochu during a visit to Taiwan.

China Telecom has invested CNY150 million in constructing a nationwide copper-cable fixed network for broadband access to the Internet during the past five years and currently has nearly 70 million subscribers, according to China-based tech.163.com. Over the next three years, China Telecom will upgrade the fixed network to FTTx, aiming to attain download speed of 20-100Mbps in the largest cites and at least 4Mbps in others, the report said.
