Chinese broadband service dominator China Telecom Corporation Ltd. (NYSE: CHA, SEHK: 0728) plans to complete an optical fiber improvement based on its current broadband users in the coming three to five years, citing a report.
The company aims at a broadband speed of 20M in its urban broadband access users eventually. In short, it will reach a full-range optical cable coverage in all commercial buildings in Chinese major cities; it will realize the Fiber to the Home in developed areas; and home broadband users can enjoy a downstream rate of 8M to 20M.
In detail, the company will achieve the Fiber to the Building in newly-constructed urban areas and a downstream rate of above 20M in those broadband users in existing urban areas. In rural areas, it will deploy an optical cable network in administrative villages across east and mid China on the whole, reach an optical cable coverage of 80% in administrative villages in west China, and target a downstream rate of above 4M in those broadband users in administrative villages accessing the optical cable network.
