China Unicom is expected to launch its third-generation mobile technology service in May, the Beijing News reported, citing sources.
The report said China Unicom will open an equipment tender this month and start building the WCDMA networks in February.
Earlier, China Unicom said in statement that it will to invest 100 bln yuan on 3G networks in the next two years.
China officially granted third-generation mobile technology licenses to China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom last week.
China Unicom obtained a 3G license based on WCDMA technology.
