China Mobile will use its existing brands "Gotone," "M-Zone" and "Easyown" to promote the TD-SCDMA network, reports Sina quoting marketing department vice general manager Lu Wenchang. China Mobile's GSM and TD-SCDMA networks will have different orientations, focusing on voice service and mobile broadband access, respectively, said Lu. China Mobile's 2G and TD-SCDMA networks were integrated by the end of 2008 to allow 2G users to join the TD-SCDMA network directly, said the report.
Lu said China Mobile officially began commercial operation of the TD-SCDMA network on Thursday after receiving a government license on Wednesday, reports Sohu. TD trial users will continue to receive a monthly subsidy of RMB 800 until the end of 2009's first quarter, when their accounts will be cleared of any remaining funds, said Lu. China Mobile expects the TD-SCDMA network to cover 38 cities by mid-2009, said the report. China Mobile, China Telecom (NYSE:CHA, 728.HK) and China Unicom were issued licenses on Wednesday to operate the TD-SCDMA, CDMA2000 and WCDMA networks, respectively.
