China Mobile lately started to build up TD-SCDMA network in Henan province with total investment of CNY 3.9 billion. Initially, it will set up 842 base stations and 500 indoor distributed systems in the city center of Zhengzhou, the capital of the province, and is scheduled to kick off 3G service in June 2009.
In the wake of Zhengzhou, China Mobile will also start building TD networks in other cities in the province with total spending of CNY 900 million.
The telecom carrier began surveying, designing, locating, and making first-phase preparations since August 2008.
After coming into operation, mobile phone users will only need a dual-mode TD handset to enjoy all the 3G services without replacing their previous telephone numbers and SIM cards.
China Mobile says that with the 3G network they can provide subscribers with services of video telephones, mobile Internet, mobile TV, video on demand, and so on, besides traditional 2G services.
