The US wireless broadband operators Sprint and Clearwire are being sued by equipment vendor Adaptix over alleged infringements of six of its patents relating to WiMAX technology. In the suit, which has been filed with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Adaptix is claiming unspecified damages plus the payment of its legal fees, and it is also seeking an injunction which could force Sprint/Clearwire to shut down their WiMAX networks. The two operators merged their WiMAX operations earlier this month under the Clearwire name; they have one live WiMAX network at present, in Baltimore, with Portland, Oregon, the next city scheduled for a commercial launch.
