China Unicom Ltd, the second largest mobile telecom operator in the country, announced it added 996,000 new subscribers of global system for mobile communications (GSM) in November, bringing its overall number of GSM subscribers to 132.941 million, sources reported.
In November, its fixed-line users dropped by 1.52 million to 105.017 million.
As of the end of November, its broad band subscribers increased by 234,000 to 25.438 million.
China Unicom formally merged with China Netcom to form a new company China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd on Oct. 15. Its parent China United Telecommunications Corp started transferring the CDMA business to China Telecommunications Corporation (Telecom Group), parent of China Telecom, from Oct. 1, which is expected to be finished in three months.
