Romania's new telecoms regulator, ANC has announced that six companies have expressed an interest in the forthcoming award of two WiMAX licenses. The six companies have been named as: Asesoft International, Comcore Management, Cosmote, Media Sat, RCS & RDS and Vodafone Romania.

“On 5 February 2009, i.e. the deadline for submitting the offers, we will know the companies most interested in these licences. Although ANC will check the operators’ compliance with the licence terms on 1 September 2010, at the earliest, I hope that Romanians could benefit from WiMax services by the end of 2009”, Liviu Nistoran, the ANC President, declared.

The offers will be opened on 6 February 2009, at the Authority’s headquarters, whereas the winners are to be designated by 9 March 2009. Complaints may be submitted from 10 to 16 March 2009.

The submitted offers will be assessed upon the following criteria: financial capacity, commercial feasibility, specialisation and experience, technical feasibility and intended coverage.
