Dutch WiMAX operator, Worldmax has upgraded the capabilities of its commercial service to 5 Mbps downlink data rates. This speed upgrade is available to all subscribers wishing to benefit from the faster download speeds through a simple software download plus an adjustment of their subscription service.
Following its network deployment and service improvement plan Worldmax says that it is able to launch the 5 Mbps service after careful evaluation of the device performance and user experience in a 3.5GHz environment. The network optimization was performed in partnership with WiMAX chip partner Beceem, and the results look so promising that Worldmax says that it is expecting to introduce 32Mbps on its network during 2009.
“We have worked very closely with our primary partner Alcatel-Lucent and our strategic chip partner Beceem, and together we have been able to redefine the performance envelope of mobile 3.5GHz networks,” said Keimpe B. Algra, COO & CTO, Worldmax. “Without Beceem and the amazing capabilities of their advanced WiMAX chip we would not be able to offer this performance upgrade, and we are looking forward to further increase the service capabilities of our network in 2009.”
