Spanish news source Cinco Dias is reporting that Telefonica has held talks with multiple German broadband operators with a view to acquisitions as it looks to strengthen its position in the country. Citing a statement by Telefonica’s CFO, Santiago Fernandez Valbuena, the report notes that the identities of the operators involved in discussions had not been revealed. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Telefonica currently operates in Germany under its O2 brand, and at the end of June 2008 held just 11.6% market share, well behind market leaders T-Mobile and Vodafone which had 32.8% and 30.1% respectively.
