Newly regrouped telecommunications giant China Telecom Corporation Ltd. (NYSE: CHA and SEHK: 0728) firstly starts the 189 mobile phone number plan in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian, a China Telecom executive disclosed in an interview on November 17.

Local customers can register 189 mobile phone numbers in the Fujian telecom branch under China Telecom as of November 19, 2008. The branch has completed the interoperability among China Telecom's CDMA network, the GSM network of China Mobile, and the GSM network of China Unicom.

In addition, the plan includes a service package of fixed-line phones, CDMA mobile phones, ADSL, and wireless broadband.

The Beijing telecom branch of China Telecom tries to release 189 mobile phone numbers in mid November, said an executive of the branch. However, the Shanghai telecom branch of China Telecom has not yet received a notice about the move from its parent company.
