Japanese WiMAX licence holder UQ Communications has selected advanced mobile device management (MDM) software developer Mformation Technologies to supply it with its Mformation Service Manager products as part of the rollout of UQ’s WiMAX network. The vendor’s service manager suite is designed to provide seamless device management capabilities for new WiMAX-capable devices, the company said in a press release. Formerly known as Wireless Broadband Planning KK, UQ Communications was established by KDDI Corporation, Intel Capital Corp., East Japan Railway Company, Kyocera, Daiwa Securities Group and The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ. The venture won a licence from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) in December 2007 to provide high speed wireless broadband services. UQ Communications plans to launch a pilot service in Tokyo and Yokohama in February 2009, with full commercial services to follow before the year is out.
