Buongiorno Upgrades Agreement With Orange in Africa
Updated:2008/10/15 10:24
Mobile content distributor, Buongiorno says that it has signed a larger agreement with Orange for the management of the operator's WAP portals in Africa. The new contract supersedes a previous agreement that saw Buongiorno providing Orange with interactive mobile services and CRM. The new Buongiorno-Orange agreement names Buongiorno as management provider to Orange WAP portals in the Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mali, Equatorial Guinea, Niger, Senegal and RCA by 2009. Under the agreement Buongiorno is to provide technological, operational, and marketing expertise, as well as applications and content aimed to enrich Orange's offering to its consumers. The WAP portal - Orange World - fully designed and managed by Buongiorno, will offer local African music, news, sport and graphics from Buongiorno's extensive International Content Catalogue and third-party content-providers. Portio Research's "Mobile Factbook 2008" states there are over 280 million mobile subscribers in the Pan-African region and this is set to double in 3 years. The region is expected to contribute approximately 500 million new subscribers to the estimated 1.5 billion worldwide subscriber additions from end-2007 to end-2011. Andrea Casalini, CEO at Buongiorno, commented, "We are witnessing a time of consolidation in the African Telecom sector, business partners such as Buongiorno that can offer economies of scale, are very well positioned to capture the opportunity of this emerging market. This agreement with Orange Africa is recognition of our ability as a global leader, to export and adapt our value proposition to suit different markets around the world in every country."
