NTT Buys APTT, Expands Data Center
Updated:2008/10/6 09:57
NTT Com Asia, a subsidiary of Japan-based telecom giant NTT Communications (ntt.com), has acquired APT Satellite Telecommunications (apstar.com) for approximately $20.7 million letting it control and expand its Tai Po data center, one of the largest in Hong Kong. According to NTT Com Asia's announcement Friday, it will now transfer its entire stake in Hong Kong-based APTT to another NTT Com wholly-owned subsidiary, NTT Worldwide Telecommunications Corporation that owns and operates the NTT Com group's data centers around the globe. Outside of Japan, the NTT Com Group operates data centers in 27 cities in Asia, the Americas and Europe. NTT Com has been offering data center services in Hong Kong since 2001 via dedicated leased space in the Tai Po Data Center and others. However, owning APTT, the company said, will enhance the Group's data center services for multinational companies. NTT Com, which offers voice, data and IP services worldwide, the Tai Po Data Center will help meet the growing demand for data center services among NTT Com customers operating in Hong Kong, a gateway to Mainland China as well as a primary hub of IT business in Asia. Its customer service offers trilingual support including Japanese, English and Chinese on a 24-hour basis. Tai Po is a Tier 3-equivalent facility according to standards established by the US Telecommunications Industry Association and The Uptime Institute. NTT Com said the facility mitigates failure using infrastructure created with multiple telecommunication carriernetworks, and offers completely redundant systems including air conditioning, uninterrupted power supply, and power generation and distribution.
