Updated:2008/8/22 11:00
South Africa-based mobile operator MTN said its earnings rose as much as 14.5 percent in the first half of the year. The company said basic earnings per share are expected up 9.0-14.0 percent, while attributable earnings for the six months increased by between 9.5 percent and 14.5 percent on a year ago. The company is also expected to report a 23.3 percent to 28.3 percent rise in adjusted headline earnings a share (Heps) for the half-year to 30 June. The major adjustments between Heps and adjusted Heps are the reversal of charges for a deferred tax asset and shareholder option in Nigeria. MTN operates in more than 20 countries in Africa and the Middle East. The company will report its interim results on 28 August.
