Telefonica O2 Czech Republic’s mobile arm has revealed plans to extend 3G coverage to a further 20 to 30 towns across the country, Telecompaper reports. The cellco currently provides W-CDMA coverage in Prague and Brno, but plans to deploy 3.5G HSDPA technology across the Ostrava and Pilsen regions in the first quarter of 2009. Telefonica O2 CR aims to provide 3G coverage to over 70% of the Czech population over the next two to three years. Its high speed mobile network currently supports download data transfer speeds of up to 3.6Mbps, a figure which it hopes to increase to 7.2Mbps by 2010.
