LG Telecom's CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A Data Service, Thrives in Korea
Updated:2008/8/12 10:41
The CDMA Development Group (CDG) has commented that LG Telecom’s new CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Rev. A data service is flourishing in the highly-competitive Korean wireless services market, adding about 100,000 new data subscribers per month to its 3G data service, ”OZ” (“Open Zone”). The service has already resulted in a 14% increase in data average revenue per user (ARPU) from the previous quarter and a total of 287,000 OZ subscribers at the end of July. Launched in April 2008, OZ has gained market momentum by offering Korean consumers full-featured handsets with the compelling benefits of wireless broadband data services. The OZ service includes full browsing on the open Internet and unlimited fast data downloads, all at a flat-rate price. LG Telecom will expand its OZ service offering with 10 or more OZ-capable mobile handsets before the year end. “The rapid subscriber growth that EV-DO Rev. A has brought to LG Telecom is a testimony to the consumer appeal of affordable broadband data services,” said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. “Given the proven results we have seen from 41 other CDMA2000 operators around the globe who have deployed Rev. A technology, we can assume that this incredible growth rate will continue and further increase LG Telecom’s data revenues.” “We’ve been tremendously pleased with the response to our OZ data service introduction,” said Cheol Soo Kim, Executive Vice President of LG Telecom. “With OZ, we’ve given consumers a new open Internet world for mobile phones at an affordable flat rate price. We will continue to exceed the expectations of our customers with new service offerings that deliver enhancements and greater value."
