Indian news source The Economic Times is reporting that Reliance Communication (RCOM) will offer a USD500 million tender for the rollout of its GSM 3G network. The tender will cover 15 million lines initially, and will cover the supply of hardware components and servicing of the 3G network. RCOM already operates GSM services in eight circles, and holds licences for the other fourteen circles; the operator’s 3G infrastructure is expected to be overlaid on these 2G networks. Vendors reported to be in preliminary talks with RCOM include Huawei, ZTE, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson.
