EDGE Launches in Barbados
Updated:2008/7/17 10:21
Digicel Barbados has announced the launch of EDGE services on its network. Digicel’s head of marketing, Robert Chase, said the system, launched earlier this week, is an upgrade of the current GPRS technology and that the mobile company is proud to be the first on the island to offer it. Chase noted: “Digicel recently launched this technology in St Lucia and it has gotten great reviews from our customers there”. “The service does not cost the customer anything extra. We realize that as the leader in mobile communications in the region, we have to keep abreast of new developments and this particular technology brings our network on par with others around the world in terms of data delivery,” Chase said. Digicel is incorporated in Bermuda and has operations in 23 markets, including Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, Curaçao, The Cayman Islands, Dominica, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, St Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname Trinidad & Tobago and Turks & Caicos. Digicel also has coverage in St. Martin and St. Barths. Figures from the Mobile World database estimates that Digicel ended Q1 '08 with around 137,400 subscribers - representing a 45% market share.
