Nokia Siemens Networks has won a €72 million (US$115 million) contract to expand the 3G network operated by Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom. The contract will enable the operator to trial Nokia Siemens Networks’ Internet High Speed Access (I-HSPA) network.
Nokia Siemens Networks will also deploy its Flexi Base Station and mobile softswitching solutions, along with a RNC and packet core solution, including CombiSGSN and FlexiISN, to boost the overall High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) performance of the network. In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks will continue to rollout its IP backhaul solution.
With deliveries starting immediately, the project, which includes network implementation and design, optimization, systems integration and maintenance services, will be completed by July 2009.
According to statistics from the Mobile World database, Chunghwa Telecom is Taiwan's largest mobile operator by subscriber base with a market share of 37.5%. The operator ended Q1 '08 with jjst over 8.2 million subscribers, of which nearly 2.6 million are using the WCDMA network.
