T-Mobile Germany has completed the upgrade of its UMTS network to HSPA, enabling customers to access internet with speeds up to 7.2/1.4 Mbps. The operator plans to upgrade the upload speed to 2 Mbps before the end of this year. T-Mobile's UMTS network now covers all important agglomerations as well as all cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, where HSDPA with a maximum download speed of 3.6 Mbps is available. At the same time, more than 250 cities have a maximum download speed of 7.2 Mbps. At the same time, T-Mobile plans to increase the coverage of GSM/EDGE network to all German households, while the number of Wi-Fi hotspots has been increased to 20,000 around Germany. T-Mobile also revealed that is current holding a femtocell pilot, which started on 1 June of this year. During the pilot, selected customers in Cologne/Bonn region can try a femtocell to improve the mobile network coverage within their homes.
