Leading Russian mobile operator, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), has teamed up with social networking site MySpace to launch a social platform for mobile internet users.

Together the companies plan to create an exclusive WAP-portal for the more than 60 million subscribers of the service. The venture should also allow MTS to investigate new marketing initiatives, such as viral marketing.

MTS will also launch an MTS-branded community on MySpace Russia, in an attempt to increase usage and drive support to the partnership.

Pavel Roytberg, product and service development director, for MTS Russia said, "This partnership fits well into our strategy of providing Web 2.0 and social networking capabilities for our subscribers...The pairing of the leading mobile and social networking brands will bring increased portability and greater access to customers of both MTS and MySpace".

MySpace, has roughly 110 million users worldwide, and about 300,000 people sign up each day, the firm claims.
