T-Mobile UK Deploys HSUPA Upgrade Nationwide

Updated:2008/7/2 11:01

T-Mobile has become the first UK operator to deploy a HSUPA upgrade across its entire 3G network - enabling data uploads of up to 1.4Mbps. T-Mobile has also upgraded the underlying download capability of the HSDPA-enabled 3G network to 7.2Mbps, initially within the London area but rolling out to other major cities during the second half of 2008.

T-Mobile UK Chief Executive Jim Hyde said: “Mobile Broadband has come of age. Today, 25% of new contract customers are signing up and we expect to quadruple our user base in 2008. We knew mobile broadband would burst on the scene and our continued investment in new technology is paying dividends for customers seeking a fast, consistent service which offers great value. New independent tests show we lead on performance in areas that matter most to customers. We’ve also addressed the growing passion for sharing photos and videos on social networking sites by hiking up upload speeds across the country.”

The company also reported independently validated performance results by test house, P3 Solutions. The tests benchmark T-Mobile against its competitors by measuring real customer experiences during peak usage hours. The latest results of tests in Greater London reveal that T-Mobile leads the way in the key areas of browsing and download speeds. The tests were conducted between 10am and 10pm which covers peak evening usage when performance matters most to customers.
