China Unicom Ltd (HK 0762; NYSE CHU) said subscribers for its global system for mobile (GSM) services rose to 126.53 mln at the end of May from 125.43 mln at end-April.
The company said its billed GSM users rose by 2.768 mln in the first five months of the year to 65.242 mln, while prepaid users were up by 3.193 mln at 61.28 mln.
Subscribers for its code division multiple access (CDMA) service totaled 43.153 mln at the end of May, against 43.098 mln at the end of April, the company said.
Billed CDMA subscribers rose by 1.241 mln in the first five months to 39.863 mln, while prepaid users were down 15,000 at 3.29 mln.
The China Unicom group, the country's second-largest wireless carrier after China Mobile, also has a listed arm in Shanghai, China United Telecommunications Corp Ltd (SHA 600050).
