Updated:2008/6/13 11:13

Telecom New Zealand has made its initial test call on a WCDMA network - confirming that it is on track for a commercial launch by the end of this year. Telecom CEO Dr Paul Reynolds said the new network represented Telecom making it better for New Zealand consumers and businesses alike.

The company announced plans to rollout a WCDMA based network late last year.

“Customers will benefit from the strengths of both mobile network technologies and will be able to choose the devices and services that best suit their needs, without having to worry about what underlying technology platform it’s delivered by,” said Dr Reynolds.

Telecom has committed to supporting its current CDMA network until at least 2012.
