Vodacom has launched its 1.4 Mbps HSUPA service across its full 3G network

Vodacom has launched its new High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) service across its full 3G/HSDPA network.

HSUPA promises upload speeds of up to 1.4 Mbps, faster than any other broadband service in South Africa. Vodacom launched its 3.6 Mbps HSDPA service a few months ago, which until now supported upload speeds of 384 Kbps.

The new higher upload speeds will give a far better Internet experience, and the lower latency associated with the service will bode well with online gamers.

To make use of the new HSUPA offerings Vodacom subscribers must be in possession of an HSUPA capable device. Two such devices are the Novatel MC950D and Huawei E272.

Users of the standard Vodafone Mobile Connect Card, Vodafone USB Modem Huawei E220 and built-in HSDPA 3.6 Laptop modules will not be able to access Vodacom’s HSUPA service.

The new HSUPA service comes free with any Vodacom HSDPA 3.6 subscription and will officially be available from 1 June 2008.
