Millicom CenAm 2007 investments to total US$500mn
Updated:2007/6/20 09:27
Luxembourg-based holding company Millicom International Cellular plans on investing US$500mn during 2007 in its Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala-based mobile operations, Honduran press quoted Millicom CEO Marc Beuls as saying.
Central America has provided Millicom with some of its most solid financial performance and growth in Latin America. In the first quarter of 2007 the region generated revenues of US$249mn up 59% year-on-year. Beuls spoke with local press on a trip to Honduras and said investments for that country would likely reach US$150mn this year. Furthermore, next year will likely see a similar investment level. For 2008, Beuls said the company is planning the rollout of 3G services. According to an article in La Prensa, the company has already met with outside consultants and sees the beginning of 2008 as the best time to overlay a 3G network.
