China Netcom is to expand its
IPTV trials to a further ten cities in the country this year, according to reports in Hong Kong newspaper The Standard, bringing the total to 16.
Jiang Zhengxin, Vice President of China Netcom, commented ^We are coordinating with different departments on the expansion of the trials, and I guess I will get the answer before September of this year. For this year, at least, the trials will be expanded to ten more cities. ̄
The executive also commented that Netcom will not incur large costs for acquiring content, as it will promote a revenue-sharing model rather than buying content outright.
ZTE has been previously named as provider of an
AVS-IPTV network for China Netcom.
